Orthodontics Assistant Training is a continuing education program of further education whose goal is to make the dental assistant acquire basic knowledge and dexterities in a practical form as a Dental Assistant of the Orthodontist under its direct supervision.

If you live in a state other than Florida, the content of this course will help you in the application of the Board to obtain the certification as an orthodontic assistant (Certified Orthodontic Assistant COA) and we will be able to advise you on the process for it.

The Orthodontic Assistant Course is designed for Florida dental assistants who wish to specialize in orthodontics. The program is divided into four levels, each focusing on different clinical and laboratory aspects, and providing comprehensive and practical training.

  • Level 1: Orthodontic Assistant Training Course

    Duration: 20 hours (12 hours of online theory + 1 day of in-person practice)


    Cost: $550 (includes all course materials)


    Topics covered:

    •     Basic orthodontic concepts: terminology and principles.
    •     U.S. health organizations: regulations and standards.
    •     Orthodontic instruments: usage and familiarization.
    •     Sterilization: infection control protocols.
    •     Patient admission and clinical history documentation.
    •     Orthodontic records: impressions, photographs, and treatment documentation."
    •     Pre-treatment consultation: evaluation and patient education.
    •     Clinical day start and end protocols.
    •     Orthodontic records: impressions and photographs.
    •     Separators: placement and removal.
    •     Initial placement of brackets and bands.
    •     Arch adjustment: wire bending and adjusting techniques.
    •     Orthodontic hygiene instructions for patients.
  • Level 2: Advanced Orthodontic Procedures

    Duration: 1 day of in-person practice.

    •     Treatment stages: progress monitoring.
    •     Cinch wire adjustment techniques.
    •     Ligatures: types and placement techniques.
    •     Koby ties for arch fixation.
    •     Crimpable hooks: elastic placement.
    •     Stainless steel ties: bracket securing.
    •     Figure-8 technique.
    •     Open and closed springs: fabrication and adjustment.
    •     Eruption devices.
    •     Buttons and interproximal strips.
    •     Elastic band placement and removal techniques.
  • Level 3: Orthodontic Retainers and Appliances

    Duration: 1 day of in-person practice.

    •     Bracket and band removal (debonding/debanding).
    •     Retainer fabrication, adjustment, and fixation.
    •     Retainer fixation.
    •     Fabrication and placement of orthodontic appliances.
    •     Advanced impression techniques.

  • Level 4: Orthodontic Laboratory

    Duration: 2 days of in-person practice.

    For those looking to complete training in less time, we offer an intensive program over 2 consecutive days, covering levels 1, 2, and 3.
